Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells. They are usually used to cover the front of the tooth changing its color, shape, size, length or correcting uneven spaces, crooked or misshapen teeth. They can be used to improve the aesthetics of a tooth or multiple teeth or to protect the tooth’s surface from damage.
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are used to improve the color, shape, size and texture of teeth to make them more beautiful and shiny. Composite veneers require little tooth preparation and the treatment can be completed in a single visit. In order to create the composite veneers, a composite material is being applied to the front surface of the teeth. Then is sculpted to the desired shape and finished by an experienced dentist. A composite veneer requires a minor removal of the tooth surface before placement. Then they are directly placed and after that bonded to the tooth.
The Procedure of Applying Composite Veneers
Applying composite dental veneers can be done with one dentist visit only.
Diagnosis and treatment planning. After a client’s arrival in the dental office, the dentist will do a complete checkup. After that, a patient – dentist consultation is made where the treatment is explained together with the benefits of it.
Preparation. Preparation of a tooth for a veneer requires removing of about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface.
Bonding. In order to receive the dental veneer, the tooth needs to be cleaned, polished, and etched – which then roughens the tooth to allow for a strong bonding process. Once properly positioned on the tooth, a special LED light beam will be applied to the composite veneer to became as hard as the tooth surface.
How Long Do the Composite Veneers Last?
Depending on how well you look after them, the composite veneers will last 4-8 years. The dental veneers do not require any special care. The only thing to do is to continue to follow good oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash as you normally would.
